This sub-terrain cave in Saint-Elzéar is renowned in Quebec by its age, the sheer size of its caverns and the quantity and variety of its concretions. More than 230,000 years old (the oldest cave in Quebec), the cave boasts an impressive collection of ancient stalactites and stalagmites, calcite flows, the majestic “clocher du curé” (priest’s steeple) and the mysterious “lait de lune” (moon milk).

Well preserved by a stable temperature of 4 degrees Celsius and 100% humidity, the concretions of the Grotte de Saint-Elzéar stand out in this strange and other-worldly environment.
